ReMap 4

08SEP13-30SEP13

ReMap 4, the biannual contemporary art platform will take place at the heart of Athens’s historical center in the area of Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio from the 8th to the 30th of September. Once again, ReMap intends to become a unique meeting point of contemporary art production from around the world as it happens.

ReMap which took place for the first time in 2007, has since grown to serve as a successful platform for both up-and-coming and acclaimed: artists, curators, institutions and galleries from across the world. It aims, as its name implies, to showcase one of Athens’s most dynamic and vibrant neighborhoods, that of Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio, as a destination for global art production, outside conventional gallery or museum spaces.

To date more than 700 artists from around the world have presented their work at ReMap since its inception. There is a unique mix of participants as acclaimed galleries and artists from all over the world coexist with up-and-coming artists and artists’ groups. Some of the emerging artists that have participated in ReMap art platforms in the past, have gone on to become well-known internationally through some of the most prestigious international art shows and exhibitions (Venice Biennale, Whitney Biennale, Palais de Tokyo, Art Basel-Unlimited, Kunsthalle Zurich). It should also be noted that ReMap 3, which was organized in 2011, had more than 20,000 visitors.

ReMap’s 4 programme is the most diverse and international in ReMap’s history and participation interest has been stronger than ever before. There will be more than 60 shows, independent projects and events with participants from Greece, Europe (United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France) as well as the United States and Turkey in varied urban spaces—from vacant lots and basements to neoclassical buildings and ’60s apartments. The programme is—as always—free and open to the public, and includes a series of educational events.

The organisers’ main goal is showcasing Athens’ creative potential on a global scale and putting its historical center firmly on the map as a unique center for current cultural production. ReMap aims to work with the city’s everyday reality: Athens’s chaotic urban landscape and the everyday reality of the challenging times that the city is facing, are in fact elements which make ReMap stand out as an one-of-a kind international contemporary platform.
