Institute of study of Greek Contemporary Ceramic Art

The goal of the Institute of study of Greek Contemporary Ceramic Art is to study, preserve and present the ceramic Greek art mostly of the 19th century. He institute is located in an old neoclassical building that used to be the house of the family Petropoulou. The house was built in 1875 and functioned as a private home until 1969. In that year the Archaeological Institute took over the house and started using it as office space. In 1999 the restoration of the building was completed and was offered to the Institute of study of Greek Contemporary Ceramic Art.

Museum of the city of Athens Vouros-Eutaxias

The Museum of the city of Athens has a collection of engravings, paintings and photographs of Athens of the previous century. Moreover, the visitor can wander through rooms with furniture and objects typical of the 19th century and admire some paintings of famous Greek artists. Besides the permanent collection, the museum organizes exhibitions on its third floor.

The Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Museum

In 1972 Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos donated their collection to the Greek State. The collection contains over 6.000 artifacts of the Ancient Greek Civilization covering a span of almost 5000 years. The visitor has the opportunity to admire diverse objects like tools and vases of the Neolithic period and folk jewelry of the 19th century.

Design Museum of the 20th Century

The "Twentieth Century Design Museum" in Athens, Greece, is a non-profit organization presenting in a 1200 m2 Museum Space the Furniture, Lights and everyday Objects created by the great Designers and Architects from 1900 to 1999.

The exhibits are arranged chronologically starting with Mackintosh (1905) going on with early century Architects, Gaudi and a vitrine of furniture created by Salvador Dali, a detailed show of the Bauhaus School and ending with the American and Italian Design.

Frissiras Museum

In the Frissiras museum the visitor can admire paintings of contemporary artists both Greek and foreigners. The museum organizes different exhibitions displaying different works of art that are part of its extended collection. Therefore there is not a permanent exhibition.

Museum Alex Mylona – Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art

Situated on the fringe of the Athens Archaeological Park, within the historic Thission area, the Museum Alex Mylona, which was founded in 2004, provides visitors with a rare journey into contemporary art through the work of the Athenian sculptress Alex Mylona and periodic contemporary art exhibitions.

The collection of the museum of Greek theatre includes posters, programs, photographs, costumes and personal items of historic plays and performances and famous actors and actresses of the Greek theatre.

Museum of Folk Musical Instruments

The Museum of Folk Musical Instruments is located at Plaka, in an old building that used to be the house of the Greek writer and politician George Lassani (1793 - 1870). The collection of the instruments belonged to Fivos Anogarakis, who donated to the Greek state. It contains various instruments of the 20th century. The display of the museum is organized by the classification system made by Von Hornsbostel –Csachs. According to this system the instruments are categorized by their materials and the vibrating movement through which the sound is produced.
