Hellenic Motor Museum

Athens Motor Museum. Automobiles dominated my interests ever since I can remember myself. My father’s cars, were the first getaway to my passion for driving, not always with his approval. In 1977, when my first child was born, I decided that I had completed the first cycle of my participation in competitions, so I turned to the collection of old cars.

Mineralogy and Petrology Museum of the Athens University

The Mineralogy and Petrology Museum occupies a total area of about 1100 m2. The collections are exhibited in the first three halls with dimensions of 10 x 8, 13 x 8 and 33 x 20 metres respectively, while the fourth hall is for audio-visual presentations and lectures, and is 17 x 8 m.

Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum

The Jewelry museum of Ilias lalaounis is located in one of the most picturesque neighborhoods of Athens, very close to the metro station of Acropolis. Its permanent collection includes 4000 models of jewelry designed by its founder from 1940 until 2000.

Museum of Greek Folk Art (Central Building)

The museum was founded in 1918 by the poet Georgios Drosinis and a group of Athenian Intellectuals. During that time Greek artists came to appreciate the folk art for the first time and thought that it could be an inspiration to modern art. Initially, the museum was situated in the Tzistarakis Mosque (now it contains a pottery collection). Today it is situated in a building in Plaka, the old town of Athens.

Islamic Art Museum

The Islamic Art Museums was founded by the Benaki institute. It contains the private collection that Antonis Benakis which he started while living in Egypt. The Islamic Art museum is situated in two combined neoclassical buildings donated by L. Eftaxia. The buildings are situated in the historical center of Athens, next to the Keramikos site. When they were being renovated, a part of the city’s wall and an ancient tomb were discovered on the foundations. Today, these can be seen at the basement of the building. The Islamic Art Museum consists of four floors. Its' collection covers the centuries from the 7th century A.D. to the 19th century.

Athens Railway Museum

The Railway Museum of Athens, was founded by the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) in 1978. The museum has a collection of items related to the history of rail transport in Greece.

National Historic Museum

The National Historic Museum is located in the old Parliament building of Athens since 1960. The museum has assembled various artifacts from the Post-Byzantine years (form 1453) until the Greek –Italian war of the 1940-41.
